Ta-Long Residential Building

Dalong Market & Social Housing was originally built in 1985, but was diagnosed with radiated reinforced bars in 1996 and was then demolished in 2015. Q-LAB won the open competition in 2015 to design and rebuild the new complex with almost identical program but was required to implement the latest regulation and building codes. We set up a visionary goal to transform the way traditional market was operated here in Taiwan which was notoriously known for its rotten smell and lack of visual coherence. The final design incorporated the colors of Confucius Temple near by with a touch of modern material and contemporary graphic design to together create a wholistic change. Moreover, the complexity of various programs including municipal office, social housing and community space were assigned on different levels which requires smart separation of vertical circulations in an efficient manner so that each program can be maximized in floor area. The lift lobby and its adjacent amenities on each level was then designed with museum quality to completely change the way the general public perceive about the government.
